Positive Pay matches the account number, check number and dollar amount of each check presented for payment against a list of checks previously authorized and issued by the client. All three components of the check must match exactly or it will not be paid. When a check is presented that does not have a "match" in the file, it becomes flagged as an "exception item." Regal Bank then sends a digital image or a fax of the exception item to the client. The client reviews the image and instructs the bank to either pay or return the check.

Thomas Lupo, president and CEO of Regal Bank, said, “Check fraud is a major problem that results in billions of dollars in losses annually. By offering Positive Pay to our customers, we can provide them with protection from check fraud and lost revenue. It also offers customers enhanced control of whether a check should be paid.”

Positive Pay is effective only against altered dollar amounts, not altered payees. High-security checks can help prevent altered payees.

Regal Bank will be calling on all of their commercial customers to encourage them to take advantage of Positive Pay. “Customers who sign up for Positive Pay during this promotional period will have all fees waived for this product.” said Christina Slater, Regal Bank Regional Vice President.
